You have not told the person who was close to you how much you miss them. Not because you are not allowed to, but because you are not entirely sure how to explain it to them. The person is still alive and they have not wronged you in anyway. Life just shifted, the way it sometimes does, and the one who used to help carry your faith is no longer in the position they used to be. The mentor who poured into you moved on. The pastor who knew your name and your story left the church. The friend who always prayed with you got busy with a new season of their own, and you kept going because that is what you do. But privately, without making a big deal of it, you have been doing it a little more alone than you used to, but it turns out it has been harder than you expected.

Scripture In Context.

The disciples knew this feeling and lived it the night Jesus told them He was leaving. Three years of watching Him heal the sick, silencing the storms, raising the dead and. Three years of having the answer to every question walking right beside them and now He was telling them that the time was coming when He would no longer be with them any longer.

John 14:16 (NKJV) "And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever."

He did not leave them with a farewell and a memory but He made a promise. He told them that what was coming was not a lesser version of what they had known about Him. Another Helper, the same Greek word used of Himself, Paraclete, one called alongside to help. Someone of the same level as He was, sent to be with them permanently because He was going back to His Father in heaven.

A Departure That Was Actually A Gift.

John 16:7 (NKJV) "Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you."

To your advantage, the departure of the Person who had become the most important spiritual presence in their lives was described by Jesus as something that would work in their favour. Not because losing Him was easy nor because the pain of it was not real, but because what came next was something deeper than what they had experienced standing beside Him. Jesus walked with them but the Holy Spirit would live within them.

What This Means For You Right Now.

You may be in a season right now where the spiritual support that once felt so steady has thinned out in ways you can not explain. May be the person who used to speak life and God’s blessings over you is simply no longer available the way they used to be, and you have been trying to hold things together without saying it out loud.

God sees it all and He is not asking you to pretend it does not hurt. Loss of spiritual companionship is a real loss, and naming it honestly before Him is not weakness. But here is what He wants you to know alongside that honesty: He planned for this season before it arrived. He did not leave you to hold your faith alone while He waited for the right person to come along. He sent His Spirit to do in you what no person could ever fully do for you. The Holy Spirit knows your name. He knows the exact weight of what you are carrying. He knows what you need to hear before you know how to ask for it and unlike any mentor or friend or pastor, He does not move away or get busy. He abides forever, that word means He stays. It means He makes His home in you and does not leave.

The Help That Found You Has Never Left You.

You did not lose your access to God when you lost that relationship. You lost something real and something that mattered, and God does not minimise that. But the line between you and heaven was never running through another person. It was always running through His Spirit, and His Spirit is still right there, closer to you than any human being could ever be, waiting for you to lean into the help that has been yours all along.

Start talking to Him the way you used to talk to the people who helped carry your faith. Bring Him the questions you used to bring to your mentor. Bring Him the burdens you used to take to your pastor. Bring Him the quiet things you used to share with your praying friend. He is not a last resort. He is the source everything else was drawing from, and in this season, He is giving you the chance to find that out for yourself.

You are not spiritually alone, even when it feels that way. The Helper Jesus promised is not a feeling you have to stir up or a presence you have to earn. He is in you, for you, right now, in the middle of this exact season. Let Him be what He came to be, and as you do, you will find that the season you thought was taking something from you was actually the one He used to bring you closer to Him than you have ever been.
