After everything this season has cost you, after the years of holding on past the point where most people would have let go, after the prayers that went up and the silence that came back, after the false starts and the doors that opened just to show you the possibility and then closed again without explanation. You are still here, still believing, that God has not forgotten your name.
That is not a small thing, though it may feel small from the inside, especially on the days when your faith feels more like stubbornness than anything spiritual. The fact that you have not walked away from what God placed in you, through all of that, matters more than you currently know.
Joseph held on through thirteen years of it and then one morning, without warning, in the space of a single conversation, his entire life changed.
The Morning Everything Shifted.
Pharaoh had two dreams in one night, and he could not sleep that he called every wise man and magician in Egypt to interpret the dreams to him. No one could and it was only in that moment of Pharaoh's frustration that the cupbearer finally remembered the Hebrew prisoner who had once spoken a true word over his own dream with complete accuracy. The chain of events that followed happened with a speed that must have felt surreal to everyone in the room, most of all to Joseph himself.
"Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him quickly out of the dungeon; and he shaved, changed his clothing, and came to Pharaoh." Genesis 41:14 NKJV
That morning Joseph woke up in a dungeon and by the time the day ended, his entire life had been rewritten. He interpreted Pharaoh's dreams with wisdom and clarity that no one else in the room could match, and offered a plan so sound that Pharaoh's response was total and immediate.
"And Pharaoh said to Joseph, "See, I have set you over all the land of Egypt."" Genesis 41:41 NKJV
One conversation in one day. After thirteen years of betrayal, slavery, false accusation, and spending time in prison, and then one conversation that reversed the entire trajectory of his life. Psalm 126 gives us the language for what that kind of restoration feels like from the inside.
"When the Lord brought back the captivity of Zion, we were like those who dream." Psalm 126:1 NKJV
When God moves, the restoration He brings is so complete and so sudden that the people receiving it feel like they must be dreaming. That is a description of how God works when the fullness of His timing finally arrives.
Thirteen Years To One Morning.
Joseph was seventeen when his brothers threw him in the pit. He was thirty when he stood before Pharaoh. Thirteen years apart and in all of that time, from the pit to Potiphar's house to the prison to the moment the cupbearer finally spoke, not one day was wasted. The pit built resilience he could not have developed in comfort. Potiphar's house built the administrative capacity that Egypt's second in command would need. The prison built the patience and the character to hold authority without letting it corrupt him. By the time he stood in front of Pharaoh, Joseph was not simply a man with a gift, he was a man whose character had been formed in conditions that no palace school in Egypt could have replicated. The promotion did not just happen to Joseph, it landed on a man who had been quietly becoming ready for it for thirteen years.
What You Are Becoming While You Wait.
It is easy in the middle of a prolonged season to feel like nothing is happening. Especially when the circumstances look the same, the opportunities you are seeking have not appeared yet, when the breakthrough has not come and it becomes so tempting to conclude that the waiting is simply a wasted time, a gap between where you are and where you are supposed to be, with nothing of value filling the space in between. But Joseph's story dismantles that conclusion entirely.
The waiting was not empty but full of character being formed, trust being deepened, and capacity being built that the next chapter of his life would demand. If God had handed Joseph the palace at seventeen, fresh from his father's house with none of the formation that followed, the responsibility would have undone him. The waiting was not the obstacle to his purpose but the pathway into it.
Whatever season you are walking through right now, whatever feels unresolved and unmoved, something is being built in you that you cannot yet fully see. Not one day of this season is going to waste, even the ones that feel like they are.
God's Restoration Arrives Suddenly.
One of the most important things Joseph's story teaches about the way God works is that His restoration do not always arrive gradually. Sometimes they arrive in a single morning with a completeness that takes your breath away. The dungeon to the throne room was not a slow climb. It was sudden, total, and unmistakably the hand of God at work. The people watching it happen, Pharaoh's entire court, had no natural explanation for it, which is exactly the point. God has not given up on you.
The wait has been long and the silence has been real and the weight of it has cost you more than most people around you will ever understand. But here comes the good news, none of that means the promise has expired. It means you are still in the season of preparation, and the God who moved for Joseph in one morning holds your story in the same hands today.
The Morning Is Already On Its Way.
The day is coming when what you have been carrying will arrive with a speed that surprises you. Not gradually, not in a slow trickle of partial improvements but suddenly. One conversation, one open door, one moment where God's timing and your preparation finally meet, and everything you have held through the long years will make complete sense. Joseph did not know, that last morning in the dungeon, that it was the last morning in the dungeon. He simply got up, stayed faithful, and walked into the conversation God had been arranging for thirteen years. That is all you are being asked to do right now, not to have it figured out and not to understand the timeline. Just keep going, keep your integrity intact, and keep believing that the God who started this in you is the same God who finishes what He begins.
Your promotion is not lost neither is it delayed indefinitely. It is being held at exactly the right moment by exactly the right God, who has seen every single day of your faithfulness and has not forgotten one of them. The palace is still in your story. You are simply not finished being prepared for it yet, and that preparation is closer to complete than it has ever been.
God has not given up on you. The pit was not the end, the prison was not the end, and whatever season you are in right now is not the end either. The same God who took Joseph from the dungeon floor to the throne room in a single day is the God who holds your story, and He is not finished writing it.
